IsDB Resilience Forum: Recovery, Preparedness and Path to Sustainability

Overview:

The magnitude of shocks and challenges imposed by COVID-19 and the events in Ukraine and Europe necessitate a new thought leadership surrounding recovery, preparing for future shocks and building resilience. The pandemic has compounded the effects of climate change, led to massive unemployment and created mass displacement. Both COVID-19 and the crisis in Ukraine which is currently affecting global economy, energy and food markets are landmark experience which draw the attention to understanding resilience and analyzing the complex interactions between fragility and resilience.

The objectives of the Forum are to deliberate on: (i) How countries can approach interconnectedness of dimensions of resilience while pursuing recovery and preparedness for future shocks (ii) The need for improved knowledge and statistics in interconnected dimensions of resilience (iii) Prospects of building alliance and partnership to invest in resilience (iv) launch the IsDB 2nd Resilience Report.



Key issues to be addressed:

  1. What is the role of investing in promoting recovery and preparedness and building long term resilience of the member countries?
  2. How can we mainstream key resilience lessons and findings, and strategies across and among diverse stakeholder networks including government, the private sector, the nonprofit sector, and local communities?
  3. What are some practical and successful case studies on the role of social protection in promoting preparedness?
  4. What is the potential of digitalization in building resilience to shocks?

  • SPEAKERS (HIGH LEVEL PANEL):
    • Amer Bukvic

      Acting Director-General of Global Practice & Partnerships,IsDB. He leads IsDB’s product organization and strategic direction in partnerships, public and private financing, co-financing, and knowledge products. Mr. Amer also previous served as the CEO of Bosna Bank International for 15 years. 

    • Aslam Chaudhary

      Aslam Chaudhary is the Alternate IsDB Governor-Pakistan and Joint Secretary, EAD, Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He is presently managing portfolio of China, AIIB, IsDB and OFID in Economic Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan.

    • Fahad Hamad Hassan Al- Sulaiti

      Fahad Hamad Hassan Al- Sulaiti is the CEO-Education above All (EAA) Foundation. Fahad joined EAA in December 2012 as the director of administration and finance, where he successfully set up the foundation’s management system.

    • Nena Stoiljkovic

      Nena Stoiljkovic began her mandate as Under Secretary General for Global Relations, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in October 2020.

    • Rami Ahmed

      Rami Ahmed is the Special Envoy on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the IsDB’s G20 Sherpa, in addition to his duties as Senior Advisor to the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

    • Ahmed Abdel-Latif

      (Ambassador) is the Director General of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) as of October 11, 2020. He is also the Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development.

    • Cushla Thompson

      is the Lead Economist in the Crises and Fragility team of the OECD, serving the International Network on Conflict and Fragility (INCAF) and the Development Assistance Committee (DAC). She supports’ development partners in their responses to the different dimensions of fragility.

    • Alessandro Villa

      Alessandro Villa works at the European Commission (EC), Directorate General for International Partnership (DG INTPA) in Brussels as Deputy Head of Unit for Middle East, Central Asia and relations with Arab Donors.

    • Yannick Du Pont

      Is the Founder and CEO of SPARK, Drs. Yannick has been working in the field of higher (vocational) education & economic development in post-conflict countries since 1994.

    • Abdimajid Moalin Abdullahi

      Is the head of the social development in Resilience and Social Development Department, he is currently overseeing fragility, resilience, civil society engagement, youth and women empowerment in IsDB member countries.

    • Syed Husain Quadri

      Is the Acting Director of the Resilience and Social Development Department, leads the Islamic Development Bank’s engagement in the areas of Climate Change, Fragility, Conflict and Violence, Gender Empowerment and Youth Development to support its 57 member countries development efforts.
