The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will be organizing the Annual General Assembly (GA) of the Federation of Contractor from Islamic Countries (FOCIC). The GAs will be held as part of the IsDB Annual Meeting which is being held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt during 1-4 June 2022. The event will be held on Wednesday, 1st June 2022, at 13:30 to 15:30 PM in the in El Salam Hall, Tonino Lamborghini International Convention Center Sharm El Sheikh.
The FOCIC will be holding its GA which aims to revive the Federation which has been dormant for several years. A Task Force was set up as a result of the last Annual Meeting of IsDB held in Uzbekistan in September 2021. This Task Force had held three meetings and has been supported by the Federation of Arab Contractors, the Federation of African Contractors and the Federation of Egyptian Contractors. A new draft constitution has been prepared for FOCIC with the input of the various Contractors Federations. Once this constitution is finalized and ratified by the GA, elections are also expected to take place to decide the new management positions for FOCIC.
IsDB has been supporting FOCIC because of the important role Contractors play in the implementation of development projects and promoting construction industry in member countries. Such support aims to boost the capacity of the private sector to compete for Bank financed projects and will lead to economic activities and job creation. This will increase Business Opportunities for the Contractors both in public and private sector within 57 member countries and beyond.
